The World as a Screen: Digital Platonism

Soy Cámara online

The virtual interface of the screen has become a world of increasing autonomy. It is in the online world that we construct our identity, where we project our desire and where we socialise, but it is also the place where we pour out our violence and where, sometimes, we renounce our real selves. These virtual spaces are emerging as platonic models that induce past memories, model the present and draw out the future that we expect. How are we to move smoothly between the two worlds? How can we navigate the “uncanny valley” of the internet without losing our commitment to the real world? With the intervention of Hito Steyerl, Harun Farocki, Carles Guerra, Remedios Zafra, Ingrid Guardiola and the astronaut Ellen S. Baker. This episode of Soy Cámara has been made in parallel with the cycle The World as Screen (CCCB, 2019). Thanks to the Fundació Tàpies, to the speakers, and to the artists who loaned us their works.
