Conversation about artistic methodologies in art and science projects, and presentation of the GRAPA notebook

The two GRAPA artist residencies of Joana Moll and Silvia Zayas are reaching their end, and we’re bringing together the artists, scientists and cultural agents who have created and made possible the prototype. GRAPA is a collective dialogue to value the learning and artistic methodologies involved in ACTS (arts, science, technology and society), culminating in two publications about the project.
Artists Joana Moll and Silvia Zayas, and scientist Claudio Barría, along with the people coordinating GRAPA—Clara Piazuelo (GRAPA coordinator), Susana Arias (CCCB), Anna Manubens (Hangar) and Tere Badia (HacTe)—, will be discussing the artistic methodologies in art, science, technology and society (ACTS) brought into play by the GRAPA prototype. During this conversation they will present the two paper-format notebooks produced by the project, and address themes such as artistic positioning, the need to signal crisis and be able to intervene, managing anxiety, and the rhythms or distribution of agency in the processes. They will also be talking about the conflict between art and technology with a view to identifying the obstacles and the symmetries between the two disciplines.
In 2022 and 2023, Hangar and the CCCB launched GRAPA, a mechanism designed to support artists working in the overlap of art, science, technology and society (ACTS), intended above all as training in institutional flexibility to address the singularity of the processes at this intersection, and an opportunity to experiment with learning and openness.
GRAPA is the first pilot programme of Red ACTS, an initiative of the Daniel and Nina Carasso Foundation and the Hub d’Art, Ciència i Tecnologia de Barcelona (Hac Te) to interrelate the statewide ecosystem of research, creation and training at the intersection of art, science, technology and society.
