Direction, scripwriting, editing: Félix Pérez-Hita
Language: English
Subtitles: Spanish
Duration: : 6 min 15 s
Synopsis: By means of a simple montage of two found sequences, Soy Cámara invites spectators to draw their own conclusions about historical issues that somehow cast light on present-day life. Here we present a double screen with excerpts from: 1) Mondo cane (1962), by Italian filmmakers Cavara, Jacopetti and Prosperi, a semi-semidocumentary of dubious intent that gave its name to the mondo film genre, showing a Christian mission calling the members of tribes in Papua, New Guinea, to mass. 2) Sister Wendy's American Collection (2001) is a programme about written art presented by Wendy Beckett, a nun born in South Africa who is famous on several television stations around the world; in this episode she talks about some of the sacred carvings by the same New Guinean aborigines we can see on the left of the screen, sculptures that are now conserved at the Metropolitan Museum of New York.
