Edited by Borja de Riquer, Història mundial de Catalunya (Edicions 62, 2018) presents an innovative approximation to the history of Catalans with a focus on ties forged and influences exchanged with other societies over time.

Borja de Riquer says that Història mundial de Catalunya demonstrates what Jaume Vicens Vives called the “mixed condition of Catalans”. With a new historiographical focus studying how global phenomena have developed in different historical periods and places, the book guides the reader through the history of Catalonia with an emphasis on the outside influences it has received and its contributions beyond its borders, all of which has shaped Catalonia as a diverse country which is both a conduit and crossroads of blending. The innovative nature of this approach is combined with its presentation of a chronological narrative structured around a selection of 124 specific and relevant episodes, dates and personalities all of which stimulate reflection on the social, economic, cultural and political realities of each epoch.

The editor-in-chief of the magazine Sapiens, Clàudia Pujol, will chair a panel discussion with Josep Ramoneda, president of the publishing conglomerate Grup 62 and promoter of the project, Borja de Riquer, editor of the book, and the historians who have acted as consultants for its different sections: Joaquim Albareda, Miquel Molist, Isabel Rodà and Josep Maria Salrach.
