Josep Maria Salrach

Professor Emeritus at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) of Barcelona, where he was Professor of Medieval History, his area of specialisation has been social history and power in Catalonia in the High Middle Ages. He was written several books about this period and these subjects, among them La formación del campesinado en el Occidente antiguo y medieval (The Formation of the Peasantry in the Ancient and Medieval West, Síntesis, 1997) and Justícia i poder a Catalunya abans de l'any mil (Justice and Power in Catalonia before the Year 1000, Eumo, 2013). He has also contributed to jointly-authored works, among them the monumental Histoire générale des systèmes politiques (Presses Universitaires de France, 1998) and is, at present, editor of Catalunya Carolingia, a work founded by per Ramon d’Abadal and devoted to the publication of all Catalan documents of the ninth and tenth centuries. As a historian inquiring into the roots of present-day problems, he has written the monographic study Història de la fam al món: passat i present (A History of Famine in the World: Past and Present, Eumo, 2008).
