Joaquim Albareda

Professor of Modern History at the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Barcelona, Joaquin Albareda’s studies have mainly been concerned with politics and society in eighteenth-century Catalonia and, in particular, the War of the Spanish Succession, about which he has written several books including La guerra de Sucesión de España (The War of the Spanish Succession, Crítica, 2010) and La guerra de 1714 (The War of 1714, Editorial Pòrtic, 2014). He has edited jointly-authored works, including Una relació difícil. Catalunya i l’Espanya moderna (A Difficult Relationship: Catalonia and Modern Spain, Editorial Base, 2007) and El declive de la monarquía y del imperio español. Los tratados de Utrecht (The Decline of the Monarchy and the Spanish Empire: The Peace of Utrecht, Crítica, 2015). He also edited the monographic study Catalunya, nació d’Europa (Catalonia, Nation of Europe, Enciclopèdia Catalana, 2014) and, with Manuel Herrero, Political Representation in the Ancien Regime (Routledge, 2018). In addition to his work as a teacher and researcher, he is director of the “References” collection of the publisher Eumo Editorial.
