Borja de Riquer

Professor of Contemporary History at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), he is a specialist in the history of political Catalanism in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and has written numerous studies of periods like the Bourbon Restoration and the Franco dictatorship. Notable among these titles are Escolta, Espanya. La cuestión catalana en la época liberal (Listen, Spain: The Catalan Question in the Liberal Period, Marcial Pons, 2001) and Alfonso XIII y Cambó. La monarquia y el catalanismo político (Alfonso XIII and Cambó: The Monarchy and Political Catalanism, RBA, 2013). He has also contributed to co-authored works including Historia de España (History of Spain) edited by Josep Fontana and Ramón Villares, for which he wrote the volume La dictadura de Franco (The Franco Dictatorship, Crítica, 2010), in addition to editing Història. Política, Societat i Cultura dels Països Catalans (History: Politics, Society and Culture of the Catalan Countries – 1995-1999). More recently he has published the books Breve historia del franquismo (A History of the Franco Years, Crítica, 2015) and Anar de debò: Els catalans i Espanya (Really Leave: The Catalans and Spain, Rosa dels Vents, 2016). He is the current president of the Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres de Barcelona (Barcelona Royal Academy of Fine Arts).
