Laida Lertxundi

Filmmaker

Filmmaker who lives between California and Euskadi. Her work connects conceptual art and structural cinema from a radical personified feminist perspective. She has a master’s degree from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and a degree in Fine Arts from Bard College. At present, after having taught at the University of California, San Diego, she is a lecturer in Fine Arts and Humanities at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. Her films, most of them in 16mm are set in natural, urban, and domestic spaces of Los Angeles and its surroundings. Coming under the generic title of Landscape Plus, they move between the intimate spaces of interiority and the vastness of California’s open spaces with the aim of covering a geography transformed by  affective and subjective states. She has been a programmer for Xcèntric cinema at the CCCB and her work is included in the Reina Sofía National Art Centre collection. She has also had solo exhibitions at Matadero (Madrid, 2019), LUX (London, 2018), Tramway (Glasgow, 2018), Tabakalera (Donostia, 2017), fluent (Santander, 2017), DA2 (Salamanca, 2015), Vdrome (2014), and La Alhóndiga (Bilbao, 2014). Moreover, her films have been shown in prestigious international festivals.
