Symbiotic Itineraries
The Opaque Route
Alimentary platforms, distribution infrastructures, consumption and data flow, with Gerard Ortín Castellví and Guillem Serrahima Solà
Itineraries
The Opaque Route proposes an itinerary through the physical and digital infrastructures that enable the underground economy of food distribution to homes. During the lockdown, we witnessed a boom in online food delivery and the so-called “Dark Kitchens”. This route will enable us to understand the opaqueness of the current food regimes and their production, distribution and consumption systems. At the same time, it will open a discussion on the correlation between data flow, job insecurity and the manipulation of food in the city of Barcelona.
The five locations of the itinerary demonstrate the chains of urban interdependence in the development of food platform capitalism. Visualising what is normally perceived as occult, the aim is to generate a critical framework for evaluating changes derived from the exploitation of data in the urban setting.
