Debates: “Urban Public Space” in Tirana
Debate
In the framework of ongoing collaboration between the CCCB and the city of Tirana, the Institute for Communication and Dialogue in Tirana, the Albanian Media Institute and the CCCB have organized a series of debates about public space to accompany the exhibition "In Favour of Public Space", produced by the CCCB and running from 15 October to 25 November at the Gallery of the Visual Arts Faculty of the Tirana Arts Academy.
The theme of public space is particularly important at a time when globalization is seeing the rise of private space. This is a key issue in ensuring that citizenry and coexistence are marked by diversity. Albania, a country that has just opened up to the world, and its capital, Tirana, provide a setting of great interest thanks to the incipient context of an energetic, chaotic and very aggressive form of capitalism that clearly outlines various problems at a scale that goes beyond the country itself.
In the debates, the theme of public space is analysed from the points of view of philosophy, politics, sociology and urbanism.
