Urban Africa: Reinventing the City

The Barcelona Debate 2001

The Barcelona Debate is held annually at the CCCB, and this year will examine the profound urban changes which the African continent is undergoing, as well as the correlation between the new urban realities and the contemporary arts scene. This year's debate will tie in with the opening of the exhibition "Africas: the Artist and the City". The debate tales as its premiss a view of Africa as an extremely contradictory reality where the most diverser cultural temporalities and traditions intermingle and a place where the problems and potentials of our world are concentrated and manifested in an extreme way.
