Carolina Astudillo

Filmmaker and researcher

She is a filmmaker, journalist, researcher and teacher. A graduate in Film Studies from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and with a master’s degree in Documentary making from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, she works as a researcher, makes documentaries, and writes, all with a main focus on women and historic memory. Her films, moving between experimental and documentary cinema, have been shown in museums and educational centres. Her first and second feature films, El gran vuelo (2014) and Ainhoa, yo no soy esa (2018) have both received the Silver Jasmine Award for Best Documentary at the Malaga Festival, as well as other prizes in national and international film festivals. Since 2016, she has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Spain (AACCE). She also teaches courses and gives seminars and master classes at national and international universities. Her third feature film, Canción a una dama en la sombra (2021), premiered recently.

She writes and directs Esa fugaz esencia que dejaron los sucesos, selected for the City Symphonies project and produced by the CCCB in collaboration with Dones Visuals, which premieres at D’A Film Festival 2022.
