Populism: From Citizen to the People
Lecture by Ferran Sáez Mateu
What is populism and why is it now booming? Philosopher Ferran Sáez explains that the concept, which already existed at the start of the 20th century, is now back because of the crisis in political representativeness and the immiseration of the middle classes. It is a concept based on the clash between the people and the undefined elites, and on the use of emotional language that it is very difficult to fight against. This is because it reaches people in a much more direct way than rational arguments and it enlists the help of the social media networks.
Participants: Ferran Sáez Mateu, Albert Lladó
