Kosmopolis
Travels in Sketches
Travel literature through graphic fiction
Debate
Kosmopolis will be hosting a dual activity to tackle the graphic fiction genre, consisting of a chat with American author Peter Kuper preceded by a workshop on producing travel chronicles led by Jorge Carrión and Sagar.
In recent years the illustrated travel chronicle, whether in comic or sketches format, has become consolidated as a narrative genre with a major impact worldwide. The Kosmopolis continuing programme echoes this phenomenon and invites one of its main exponents, American author Peter Kuper, Eisner prize-winner and guest professor on graphic novels at the University of Harvard, who will be talking about his work with Pere Ortín, director of Altaïr Magazine.
The day will be completed with a workshop on non-fictional comics with two prominent Spanish representatives of the genre: writer Jorge Carrión and artist Sagar.
Morning | 10.00 - 14.00
Workshop on the conceptualisation, production, development and publication of non-fictional comics, by Jorge Carrión and Sagar.
The first two hours of the workshop are theory and the other two, practical. Participants are recommended to read two works for comment and analysis: Cuaderno de Oaxaca, by Peter Kuper (Ed. Sexto Piso) and Barcelona. Los vagabundos de la chatarra, by Jorge Carrión and Sagar (Norma Cómics). Equally, it is recommended that participants bring along notes and ideas on possible projects for non-fiction in comics.
Evening | 18.30
Presentation of the special “Viatges dibuixats” (Drawn Journeys) issue of Altaïr Magazine, by Pere Ortín and Mario Trigo.
