Sagar
Illustrator and art director
Sagar is one of the most prolific and best recognised graphic authors on the national scene, with works in the spheres of illustration, comics, animation, artistic directing and stage scenery.
Born in Zaragoza and brought up in Huesca, since 1996 he has lived in Barcelona, where he studied Fine Arts. After completing his education at the UB, he began in art directing tasks at an animation studio, while designing stage sets with La Fura dels Baus and publishing comics.
Highlights from his work as art director for numerous clients include the designs and backgrounds for the Estudi Mariscal film Chico y Rita (2010), the stage set for the ballet La consagració de la primavera by Igor Stravinsky, premiered in Paris in 2013, and El Amor Brujo by Manuel de Falla for the ADDA of Alicante in 2018. As a comic illustrator, he has published the following works: Bajo la piel (Astiberri, 2004) and Cuentas pendientes (Astiberri, 2016), both with Sergi Álvarez; Dimas (Astiberri, 2009), with Andreu Martín; El mundo perdido (Astiberri, 2010), which illustrates the work by Arthur Conan Doyle; La ola perfecta (EDT, 2012), with Ramón de España; and El síndrome de Stendhal (Glénat/Centre Pompidou, 2017). He participated in the non-fiction comic Un regalo para Kushbu (Astiberri, 2017).
Together with Jorge Carrión, he is the author of Gótico (Norma, 2018) and Barcelona. Los vagabundos de la chatarra (Norma, 2015), a piece of journalistic research work considered to be one of the most innovative Spanish comics of recent times.
