Food

Debate

We explore the complex relation between food, capital and sustainability with the participation of Daniel Fernández Pascual, creator of Climavore, the food and climate crisis research platform, and Marc Talavera, the biologist behind the Eixarcolant collective.

Food, essential for subsistence, has become an object of speculation. What are the consequences of this change for ecosystems and cultures? This session looks at how the transformation of food and land into financial assets has fuelled global practices that degrade the environment and displace local cultures. Despite the argument that these intensive practices are necessary to feed the world, the reality is quite different: over a third of the food produced is not distributed, and a similar amount is lost to waste.

In this conversation, we’ll be talking about how a system based on small, family farming can be sustained, and how to move towards a future where food is not a source of inequality.
