The writers Llucia Ramis, Àlex Broch, Anna Ballbona, and Vicenç Pagès Jordà will speak with the journalist Joan Safont about the intergenerational present and future of Catalan. literature.
The relations between different generations of writers sharing the same literary environment have never been easy but, in the case of contemporary Catalan literature, there are particular aspects that need to be addressed.
The writer Llucia Ramis warned last summer of the scant respect in which the elders of Catalan literature are held, and of the almost total disappearance of their works from the shelves of the country’s bookshops.
The recent death of Maria Antònia Oliver, who received the Catalan Letters Award of Honour but whose work is no longer catalogued and almost unobtainable, is an example of the problem. So, too, is the ignorance of many younger writers about the works of their older contemporaries.
We therefore offer this conversation with the aim of ascertaining the extent to which these impressions are real and far-reaching in their scope, and what attempts might be made to change the situation.
This event is to be held in the auditorium of the Barcelona Athenaeum.
The event is organised by the Barcelona Athenaeum, together with the Centre of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona (CCCB), and the Association of Catalan Language Writers.
Moderators: Joan Safont
