Call for entries «Chris Ware. Drawing is Copying»
Send us a drawing and take part in a group show in tribute to Chris Ware
Chris Ware’s drawings, stories, characters and way of narrating leave their mark. To celebrate the impact and the influence of his unique style, Gutter Fest is organizing a collective show in tribute to this US comic-book artist. Want to take part? Send your drawing in! All participants will go into a draw to attend a masterclass with Chris Ware.
Requirements for participation
- The competition is open to individuals over the age of 18 who are resident in Catalonia. Each participant must present their work under a pseudonym.
- The work must be one (1) page of comic book or illustration in A3 portrait format (297 x 420 mm). It may be black and white or colour (CMYK), with free technique.
- Faithfulness to Chris Ware’s style and semantic finds will be valued, as will the originality and individual interpretation of each participant.
- The work must be sent in digital JPG or PDF format, in high quality for printing (300 dpi), maximum file size: 20 MB.
- Entrants must understand and speak English.

Submission
Works must be sent to [email protected] by 15 May 2025.
Selection
The Gutter Fest association will select 50 finalists from all the works submitted. The selection will be based on creativity, the connection with Chris Ware’s style and the overall quality of the work.
Exhibition
The 50 selected works will be shown in an exhibition on 31 May 2025 at the Anti-Gutter festival, at the CCCB.
Prize
Everyone taking part will receive two invitations to the exhibition Chris Ware. Drawing Is Thinking. During Anti-Gutter, all the shortlisted authors will go into a draw. Two people will be able to attend a masterclass with Chris Ware, which will take place in October 2025 during the Kosmopolis festival at the CCCB.
