Comics workshop with Marc Torices

Courses and workshops

Chris Ware’s comics have the ability to address different realities that occur simultaneously. In this workshop, taking a space, an image, a concept or an event as our starting point, we’ll develop the different stories that unfold, using various fanzine formats and sizes.

A bus is three minutes late, a toy reappears after 20 years, a landscape, a concert or a coup—any of these examples can contain infinite stories of intimacy. Using the format of Ware’s most iconic book, Building Stories, we’ll work with format and pace to explain the various aspects or stories that emerge from a point in common.

We’ll be following the teachings of Chris Ware, but also those of Fernanda Melchor in Temporada de huracanes, Francisco Ibáñez in 13 rue del Percebe, Richard McGuire in Here and Akira Kurosawa in Rashomon. The aim is to find out what’s behind something that may seem very simple or too complex, to find ourselves as readers and also as creators.
