Brain(s)

Madrid / Espacio Fundación Telefónica Madrid

Espacio Fundación Telefónica from Madrid is now the host for the exhibition ¨Brain(s)¨. Brain(s) is a co-production of CCCB and Fundación Telefónica (Madrid) that takes as its starting point "Brains: The mind as matter" and "States of Mind: Tracing the edges of consciousness", two original exhibitions by Wellcome Collection (London).

The show investigates the different manners art, science and philosophy have referred and depicted this intriguing organ.

The human brain is the most complex object we know of and the one that raises most questions in the fields of both science and philosophy. Why do brains exist? Where does consciousness come from? And what about creativity? What happens when the mind gets ill? Is it possible to create smart machines? What can we learn from the collective intelligence of ants?

The exhibition explores these questions alongside other concerns by analysing the cognition’s portrayal historically, regarding both natural and human generated systems. It also examines several types of minds beyond ours: artificial, animal and collective intelligence, and brainless organisms.

¨Brain(s)¨ lays a journey combining historical, scientific and artistic material that challenges our understanding of conscious experience and digs into what happens when this experience is interrupted or damaged.
