“I want today to talk about one of those Stoic philosophical ideals, one expression of that openness to others that I learned first from my family; an ideal that can help guide the global community through the years ahead. It is an ideal that’s particularly useful when we are faced with the sorts of conflicts grounded in religious, ethnic, racial and national identities, which pervade our world.  The ideal I have in mind, of course, is cosmopolitanism.”
