Cultural diversity is a condition that cities have employed to make progress, in that it has forced groups of people with very differing qualities to co-operate. The recognition of plurality as a condition of society and thinking represents a new argument for the cause of peaceful co-existence and mutual respect: differences are merely the result of the need for differentiation.
