Neus Ballús

Filmmaker and screenwriter

Neus Ballús is a filmmaker and screenwriter. Her first feature film, La plaga [The Plague] (2013), had its international premiere at the 63rd Berlinale Forum and was nominated for the European Film Awards, the Goya Awards and the LUX Awards of the European Parliament. The film won four Gaudí Awards, as well as more than 20 international awards. Her second feature film, El viatge de la Marta [Staff Only] (2019), premiered again at the Berlinale (Panorama) and was screened in cinemas in France and Spain. In 2021, she released Sis dies corrents [The Odd-Job Men], which was awarded the Europa Cinemas Label at the Locarno Film Festival, as well as the coveted Silver Spike and the Audience Award at SEMINCI. Her latest work, the documentary Blow! (2023) premiered in the official Competition at IDFA (International Documentary Festival Amsterdam) and received several nominations for the Goya and Gaudí awards, as well as other awards such as Best Short Film at FICX (International Film Festival Xijón). Ballús holds an undergraduate degree in Audiovisual Communication and a Master’s degree in Creative Documentary from Pompeu Fabra University, and she is also the creator of films such as L’avi de la càmera [The Old Man with the Camera] (2005) and Immersió [Immersion] (2009).
