Agnès Varda and Catalan Cinema at the Banquet du Livre

Debate

The CCCB will collaborate once again this summer with the Banquet du Livre festival (3–9 August, Lagrasse, France) with a programme celebrating Agnès Varda and Catalan cinema.

The exhibition Agnès Varda: Photographing, Filming, Recycling is the framework for the CCCB’s second collaboration with the Banquets du Livre in Lagrasse, one of France’s main summer cultural events. This year, the Banquets festival welcomes filmmakers Neus Ballús and Mercedes Álvarez to reflect on Agnès Varda’s legacy in contemporary cinema while presenting Catalan cinema to the French public. The programme is rounded out with screenings of films by the aforementioned creators and by Carla Simón.

For almost thirty years, the Banquets du Livre have gathered writers, philosophers and artists from various disciplines for seven days at the Abbey of Lagrasse, in an idyllic setting that invites contemplation and shared enjoyment, with a programme of activities that ranges from talks and lectures to screenings, concerts and walking tours. In the summer 2024 edition, called “Thinking and Looking the Other Way”,  participants will include the philosophers Matthieu Potte-Bonneville and Catherine Malabou, and the historian Patrick Boucheron, among others.
