Carlota Subirós

A playwright, theatre director and translator, Carlota Subirós has a degree in Stage Management and Playwriting (Extraordinary Prize, 1997) and in Italian Philology (Prize of Honour, University of Barcelona, 2001). She made her debut translating and directing plays in the 1990s. Since then she has continued to combine these two areas of work as well as teaching in several theatre schools. Together with Oriol Broggi, she is a founder of the company “La Perla 29” with which she presently works but is no longer a member, and she was also a member of the Advisory Board of the National Theatre of Catalonia (TNC) and of the Art Direction team at the Teatre Lliure. Her work as director of Wallace Shawn’s The Designated Mourner was recognised with the Butaca Award for the best small-format show in 2003, thus consolidating her position as one of the leading names in the new generation of Catalan theatre directors and playwrights.
