A staged and musicalized interpretation of fragments of Susan Sontag's "Regarding the pain of others".
In the present situation of the war in Ukraine, one more conflict in the more than fifty others that are raging around the planet, the famous essay by the thinker Susan Sontag about representations of suffering is stunningly valid. This work discusses the impact caused by images that testify to violence, and the ethical responsibility that is passed on to the gaze that contemplates them. Given the horrors of war, Sontag says, we must not opt for indifference or amnesia. We must keep our eyes and our conscience alert.
The theatre director and playwright Carlota Subirós presents a reading of several fragments of Sontag’s essay, constructed around a powerful soundtrack by the composer Clara Aguilar and the reading voices of the singer and actress Yolanda Sey and of the director herself.
Participants: Clara Aguilar, Yolanda Sey, Carlota Subirós
