Write Baybayin
Workshop about Pinay identity and urban art with Catàrsia
Education
Baybayin is the writing system used in the Philippines before Spanish colonization and ceased to be used due to colonial pressure. Today, various urban artistic movements of young Filipinos in the diaspora have recovered it to promote their own non-whitewashed identity, mixing the old Baybayin calligraphy with elements of contemporary culture in urban art and graffiti. In the course of this week we’ll create three small visual artworks to explore and reflect on identity, both individual and collective.
