The term “Anthropocene” is evidence of the current capacity of human activities to impress a geological footprint on a planetary level. However, how have we come to reach this situation? This discussion will be tackling this question from an evolutionary perspective. More specifically, based on the beginnings of domestication during prehistoric times, the Anthropocene will be considered as the result of a historical tendency towards the transformation of ecosystems (construction of ecological niches) on a growing scale.
