Subsol 2022
Subsol #1/2022
El Mundo Today + Juarma + Bebegrande
Scene
“Subsol” is a brand new popular culture and subculture festival at the CCCB, which wishes to make room for projects that by definition are excluded from the parameters of serious or “highbrow” culture.
The festival's first session features the performances of El Mundo Today, the underground comic author Juarma and ends with the concert of Bebegrande, young representative of the #spanishdrill. Chema Pamundi is the MC.
El Mundo Today: A roundup of everything
The leading news outlet in Europe, El Mundo Today, sums up all existing culture. You won’t need to learn anything new ever again: all the knowledge accumulated by humanity, from prehistoric times to the present day, will be summarised in this barely 25-minute talk. Whoever attends this one will abandon their ignorance forever and master everything they need to know to become a complete human being: history, science, art, politics… The most complete review ever carried out of human knowledge. El Mundo Today, founded in 2009, is a guiding light for satirical humour in Spain. In addition to radio and TV collaborations, they’ve published books including Historia, el libro, Constitución Española (edición mejorada) y El horóscopo. Tu futuro de ayer, hoy y mañana. The talk, A Roundup of Everything, will feature one of its directors, Kike García.
Juarma: «Busting the phone booth in my hometown with rocks three times made me a cartoonist»
Juan Manuel López, better known as Juarma in the underground comic scene—and now, in the literary scene as well— will be present at Subsol giving this (awe-inspiringly titled) talk on illuminations and darkness, public vandalism and the self-taught life.
Bebegrande: Drill from Delicias
Bebegrande is part of the new batch of artists who, under the umbrella of the #spanishdrill tag, make up the first musical movement in Spain spearheaded by young people of colour. With lyrics that mix Creole, French and Spanish, and visuals that map the working-class neighbourhood where she grew up—Delicias, in Zaragoza—Bebegrande has made a name for herself in the drill ecosystem, challenging gender roles with an unapologetic tomboy attitude. Songs like Maracuya, Ding Dong and Pacman, along with other bangers we’ll dance to at Subsol, are living proof of this.
Presenters: Chema Pamundi
Participants: Bebegrande, El Mundo Today, Juarma
Directors: Kiko Amat
