Free with pre-booking

Photojournalists Santi Palacios and Ricardo García Vilanova, World Press Photo award winners in 2017 and 2020 respectively, and photographer Oksana Parafeniuk, in connection from Ukraine, talk with Tamara Saeb, head of operational communications for Médecins Sans Frontières, about the photographic coverage of the conflict in Ukraine.

The war in Ukraine, the first of this magnitude on European land since the Balkan conflict, has generated an unprecedented amount of journalistic coverage. Thousands of professionals have moved to this territory facing many obstacles. How do you approach the challenge of reporting against the excess of propaganda and fake news? Is it right to cover it by integrating with soldiers of one of the warring factions? Which is the role of local photojournalists who often work as guides and interpreters for international media?

In this roundtable we will reflect on all these questions and showcase the work of photojournalists Santi Palacios and Ricardo Garcia Vilanova, and Ukrainian freelance photographer Oksana Parafeniuk, in a conversation moderated by Tamara Saeb, Head of Operational Communications at Médecins Sans Frontières.

This activity is organized by Médecins Sans Frontières, the Photographic Social Vision Foundation and the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) in the framework of the exhibition World Press Photo Barcelona 2022 in Barcelona.
