Rusia, in the margins of Europe

Is Russia Europe?

Lecture by Judy Dempsey

Debate

In this lecture, the renown journalist and researcher Judy Dempsey reflects on Russia's role in the European continent and its geopolitical implications.

From the fall of the Berlin Wall to the Ukrainian Revolution and the War in the Donbass, Russia plays a central role in contemporary European politics. The strategic importance of the country's natural resources allows it to control a considerable part of the continent's infrastructure. Meanwhile, the border separating Russian interests from European ones is conflictive, as it overalps with the yearnings for freedom and democracy of part of the population in the former Soviet Union, who look to Europe for support and solidarity.
