Adania Shibli

Writing with Erasure

Debate

Palestinian writer Adania Shibli talks about literature and writing on the occasion of the publication in Catalan of Minor Detail (Navona).

Minor detail, starts in 1949, few months after the Palestinian Nakba of 1948, exploring erased narratives and languages that haunts the Palestinian reality, a reality tinged to this day by linguistic dispossession, amongst other dispossessions. On this journey, the novel traces the small details that made up the daily life and a way of life for people in Palestine/Israel. Sometimes it is the minor details that are able to survive erasure, for this reason, Shibli sets off on the literary task of facing an all-knowing narrator that its task is to erase, as opposed as a narrator that undergoes this erasure.

In this session, Adania Shibli is joined by poet and translator of her work Mohamad Bitari in a conversation moderated by writer Gemma Ruiz.
