Daiara Tukano
Indigenous Art and Subjectivities
Debate
Free with pre-booking
Artist and activist Daiara Tukano of the Tukano clan and researcher Andrea Velásquez talk about understanding indigenous art and subjectivity beyond Western paradigms.
This session aims to contribute to the dialogue about the contradictions and limits of Western artistic language as an exclusive form of resistance. Starting out from Daiara Tukano’s experience, they will reflect on the tensions between artistic creation and the sociocultural realities of indigenous peoples, and look at how the processes of representations of these communities are influenced by social, political and economic factors.
In relation to their participation in creating the exhibition Amazonias. The Ancestral Future, they will also discuss the rise of indigenous art in contemporary art circuits, and how power and market structures impact native communities, questioning processes of cultural appropriation and simplification.
Moderators: Andrea Velásquez Butrón
Participants: Daiara Tukano
