In this session, palaeontologist Leslea Hlusko, a researcher at the Atapuerca archaeological site, will tell us about different ways of studying the human condition, and she will talk with Carola Ortiz and Toni Pou about the centrality of creativity in science and music.

Leslea Hlusko has dedicated her career to studying human evolution, acting as a great disseminator of Darwin’s legacy. In this session, she will take us through laboratories, bookstores, and museums to show us different ways of studying the human condition, while inviting us to reflect on the centrality of creativity in scientific research. Following this overview of different approaches to studying humanity, which still holds secrets for us, Hlusko will talk with the artist Carola Ortiz and the physicist Toni Pou about creative experiences in science and in the arts, with musical accompaniment by Octavio Salman, Lucía Fumero, Olushola and Miguel Talavera.

What role does science play as a tool for understanding what makes us human? What can the study of human evolution tell us about the human condition? Is creativity as important to the scientific paradigm as it is to the arts?

This activity has been organised within the Barcelona Evolution Day programm and in the context of the international meeting EvoKE BCN 21, Evolution everywhere, which will take place in Barcelona from 22 to 24 November.

Participants: Leslea Hlusko, Carola Ortiz, Toni Pou
