Ancestral Knowledge and Popular Meteorology
Collective Radio Workshop with Ivonne Villamil
Courses and workshops
In this workshop, directed by the artist Ivonne Villamil, we’ll create a collaborative work for radio based on sound experimentation with a creative approach to popular meteorology and astronomy.
We’ll explore weather forecasts, the stars, almanacs and imagined landscapes, which will take form through sound. Using improvisation, speech and live sound, we’ll use the resources of sound and radio language to put together a collaborative piece.
We’ll prepare a script based on texts, sounds, stories and memories, combining the participants’ ideas and experiences with selected excerpts from two literary works: La vorágine, by José Eustasio Rivera, which looks at rubber extraction in the Amazon and this year celebrates the centenary of its publication, and Astronomia i meteorologia populars, by Joan Amades, a classic of Catalan popular culture. We’ll refer to excerpts from these works that evoke landscapes, natural phenomena and climate cycles, taking them as a starting point to inspire our collective sound narrative.
