In the present situation of health emergency and restrictions on collective life, the Italian novelist and essayist Alessandro Baricco, and the writer Jorge Carrión will speak from their respective confinements about this unprecedented state of affairs and its meaning and consequences at the global level.

What will be the impact of the crisis caused by the spread of Covid-19? To what extent does the present emergency represent a turning point in our lives and system of freedoms? These and other questions are now arising as the pandemic is spreading to affect different parts of the planet and making it necessary to take extraordinary decisions which were unimaginable just a few weeks ago.

In several of his essays, Alessandro Baricco has pondered the features that characterise the present globalised society, which is increasingly immersed in a digital revolution where screens have become our main access to the world. This crisis, he says, is one more step in a general milieu of several linked emergencies that arose with the economic crisis of 2008 while, at the same time, it is possible that it is also the prologue of a new stage in the process of degradation and malaise of our planet. Extreme digitalisation of collective life and the fragility of biological bodies are the two extremes that come together in this pandemic whose scope is as yet unknown.

Complying with the present official restrictions on movement, this discussion has been recorded previously in order to guarantee its technical quality. It will be broadcast by streaming at the CCCB website.
