S+T+ARTS: Reworld

Milan / MEET | Digital Culture Center

After taking place in Barcelona, as a collaboration between CCCB, Sónar and UPC, the European initiative regional S+T+ARTS centers – Repairing the Present was hosted by MEET Digital Culture Center in Milan, as REWORLD | Repairing the Present.

S+T+ARTS – Repairing the Present initiative is a project launched by the European Commission which aims to foster imaginative thinking by creating spaces of dialogue between Science, Technology, and the Arts in order to address present social, economic, and environmental challenges.

From June 2021 to December 2022, 12 Regional S+T+ARTS Centers from 11 different countries are coming together to explore the possibility of Repairing the Present through resource, urban, ICT & art-powered transformations at a regional level.

The project is dealing with building issues in advanced digital culture world which is starting to face sustainability challenges and contradictions. REWORLD questions the urgency of re-materialization as we travel through metaverses under construction and as mixed realities (XR) reveal an unparalleled potential to provide critical visualisations of ecosystems outside our bodies. It explores how the merge of art and new technologies can find ways of fixing our present.

At MEET artists explore new visions to conceive possible worlds. Digital technologies expand world´s boundaries and this way they provoke reflections on their own sustainability. At the same time, the hybridization of systems and languages becomes a pretext for questioning the idea of humanity, the contradictions and the opportunities present in this ecosystem.
