Cinergies Cycle

Catalan cinema in dialogue with...

Contemporary Catalan cinema is striking significant chords with the images being produced by creators from different places around the world. The vitality of the cinema being made in our territory is manifested in the works of filmmakers who, with their aesthetic and thematic proposals, are engaged in a cinematographic dialogue with other filmmakers.

Rather than being based on similarities, these dialogues compare and contrast the filmmakers' creative concerns. A shot/countershot, like a question/answer, in which images may connect with or challenge each other to become parts of a single discourse. Cinergies sets out to show how these cinematographic links are organized, how different forms of cinema speak to each other beyond the time and place in which they were created. The result is an exploration of how the cinema being made in Catalonia spontaneously creates a rich, interesting dialogue with the cinema of the rest of the world.

The cycle will do this in various ways: by creating a dialogue filmed before the directors meet, by bringing the filmmakers face to face to explain their points of confluence and by screening their films so the public can experience the way the works speak to each other.
