Petros Markaris
Greek writer, translator and screenwriter, Márkaris came to the public at large thanks to his detective novels starring Commissar Kostas Haritos, an ironic and politically incorrect character. He skillfully interweaves police intrigue and social criticism, offering a lucid vision of the conflicts that shake Greece. This approach has brought him prestigious awards such as the Pepe Carvalho, the Negra y Criminal (2011) and the Point du Polar Européen (2013). His books include La mort d’Ulises (Tusquets, 2017), Ètica per a inversors (Tusquets, 2021) and La revolta de les caràtides (Tusquets, 2024), translated into Catalan by Quim Gestí and Montserrat Franquesa. In his latest novel, the commissioner investigates the murder of a feminist activist, highlighting the role of women in a world that makes them invisible. He has also collaborated with filmmaker Theo Angelopoulos on several screenplays and has published essays such as La espada de Damocles (Tusquets, 2012), in which he analyses the root causes of the Greek crisis and its social and political consequences.
