Marta Peirano

Writer and journalist specialising in the relationships between technology and power

Marta Peirano is a columnist at El País and heads a weekly section on technopolitics on the Spanish National Radio (RNE). She has been co-founder of the Hack Hackers Berlin and Copyfight Berlin projects, co-director of Copyfight, head of culture at the daily ADN, executive assistant at eldiario.es, technology curator at the Barcelona Biennial of Thought and member of the working group for the cyber defense at the Center for National Defense Studies (CESEDEN). He has also collaborated with La Sexta and the science magazine Muy Interesante. He has directed (re)programming - Strategies for self-renewal, an interview program on technology and climate change at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Ljubljana, and "Periodismo profundo", a seminar on new journalism at Medialab-Matadero in Madrid.

She has published El rival de Prometeo (Impedimenta, 2009), an anthology of texts that covers the history of automata, El pequeño libro rojo del activista en la Red  (Roca Editorial, 2015), with a prologue by Edward Snowden, and  El enemigo conoce el sistema (Debate, 2019), an essay on surveillance capitalism in which she links addiction to mobile phones with the data mining industry and its role as a tool for controlling and manipulating the masses. And also Contra el futuro (Debate, 2022), a critical analysis of climate technologies and apocalyptic stories.
