Lanark Artefax
The advent of Calum MacRae within the electronic sphere is relatively recent, but in a just short space of time he has become one of the names capturing the most attention within experimental circles. In 2017 the London label Whities released “Whities 011” a four-track EP that redefined the boundaries between IDM and techno. No doubt this moment consolidated the emergence of Lanark Artefax, although in 2016 Lee Gamble had already released some of MacRae’s material on his UIQ label.
In a matter of weeks, Lanark Artefax’s music was being compared to the productions of none other than Aphex Twin, with Björk asking him to perform as the opening act for shows in her recent tour –in addition to commissioning the remix of her single “Arisen My Senses” in 2018. All these factors, as well as unanimous praise from specialized music press, lead us to believe that we may be witnessing one of the most interesting contributions to the experimental panorama since Oneohtrix Point Never, an artist with whom he draws comparison and a special connection in sound.
