Javier Martínez-Picado
ICREA research professor at the IrsiCaixa AIDS Research Institute, he is one of Catalonia’s leading scientists in research into virology and clinical immunology, especially in the field of AIDS.
Javier Martínez-Picado obtained a doctorate in Microbiology at the University of Barcelona, where he taught before joining the Harvard Medical School (Boston) where he began to work in field of AIDS. His main area of scientific interest is the pathogenesis of the AIDS virus and possible immunotherapy and chemotherapy strategies for combatting this infection. He has also worked on antivirals and treatment strategies for other viruses like Ebola. He is a member of several scientific and academic committees and has published more than 180 articles on AIDS treatment strategies in international scientific reviews. He is presently working, with other researchers, in new projects aiming to contribute towards finding a vaccine for COVID-19.
