Carles Duarte

Carles Duarte (Barcelona, 1959) is a poet and linguist, he has published some thirty volumes of poems. His poetry has been translated into several languages and he has been awarded the ‘Rosa Leveroni’, ‘Vila de Martorell’, and Serra d'Or Critics’ prizes. As a linguist, he has worked with professors Joan Coromines and Antoni M. Badia i Margarit, and he has published books on historical linguistics and languages of specialist fields. He was Secretary-General of the Presidential Department of the Generalitat (Government) of Catalonia during the last government in which Jordi Pujol was president (1999-2003). He has been Vice-President of the Association of Catalan Language Writers (AELC) and president of the jury for the Recull Recvll literary prizes of Blanes. He is now president of the National Council for Culture and the Arts and director of the Carulla Foundation.
