The book 1714-2014, published by the Carulla Foundation, focuses on the past three hundred years, reflecting on this history from a long-term view: the meaning of the defeat of 11 September 1714, participation in the Spanish project in 1814, the ways of being Catalan in 1864, the experience of the Mancomunitat de Catalunya (Commonwealth of Catalonia, grouping the four provincial administrations), the ‘other Catalans’ of 1964, and the steps from autonomy towards sovereignty in recent years. Edited by Josep M. Muñoz, the book features such authors as Joaquim Albareda, Andreu Domingo, Joan B. Culla, Josep M. Domingo, Xavier Arbós and Borja de Riquer.
With Josep M. Muñoz as moderator, the historians who have contributed to the book will discuss how we have come to today’s political situation and how the roots of present circumstances go deep into the past.
