An ICREA research professor at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (IFCO)
An ICREA research professor at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (IFCO), he heads the research group working on the theory of quantum information. With a PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Barcelona (UB), his main academic interest is in one of the areas with most potential in contemporary physics, namely quantum computing. As a widely recognised expert in the theory of quantum information, he is interested in the possibilities of applying quantum effects in new information tasks. His research is opening up new practical paths related with the ways in which we process information, and his most relevant results are leading inter alia to more powerful computers and more secure protocols for encryption. Carrying out his research work between Barcelona and Geneva, he has been received several prestigious grants and the AXA Chair in Quantum Information Science Prize in 2016.
