Albert Mestres

Albert Mestres is a writer, translator, essayist, poet and stage director. He holds a degree in Humanities from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (2008) and a master's degree in Catalan Language, Literature and Culture Studies from the Rovira i Virgili University. As a translator and proofreader, he has worked mainly with art catalogs and has translated authors such as the Marquis de Sade, G. Steiner, F. Pessoa, A Baricco, J.P Sartre, J. Racine, J. Ford, P. Aretino, S.T. Colridge and G. Polet, among others. As a playwright, he has premiered several operas, poetic actions, shows and plays, including La bufa (1998), Dramàtic i altres peces (2002), Vides de tants (2003), 1714. Homenatge a Sarajevo (2004) and Temps real (2006). He is the author of an extensive body of work that includes some twenty dramatic texts, books of poetry, novels and narrative texts. Among his publications are Dramàtic i altres peces (Edicions 62, 2002), Temps real (Proa, 2007, in French translation in 2008, in German translation in 2010), Dos de dos (Proa, 2008), Un altre Wittgenstein o L'holocaust. Zwdu or El dubte /Le doute/ Der Zweifel. Farsa (Re&Ma 12, 2012), La novel·la d'Albert Puig (Angle Editorial, 2016), Pomes intestins (Edicions 62, 2018), among others. He has collaborated in essay magazines and regularly participates in symposiums, conferences and congresses on literature. He has also collaborated with the groups Zootrop, La Fura dels Baus and OOFF Companyia and is the founder of the company La Petacada. He currently teaches at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona and since 2007 coordinates the reading club of the Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia Library in Caldes de Malavella. He has recently published Sentimental (Angle Editorial, 2022) and Elegies de Caldes (Edicions 62, 2023).
