Davi Kopenawa: “If the rainforest weren’t alive, we wouldn’t exist”

Spiritual leader and spokesperson of the Yanomami people, Davi Kopenawa is one of the most widely recognised Indigenous voices in the world and a key figure in the fight for human and environmental rights. Kopenawa speaks out powerfully against the destruction of the Amazon and the genocide of Indigenous peoples, offering reflections on the spiritual bond with the forest, the violence of colonialism and the urgent need to defend life against the predatory forces of global capitalism.
