Raw Material Residencies

Dakar-Barcelona

Senegalese architects and researchers Nzinga Mboup and Carole Diop in residence in Barcelona with the CCCB and Raw Material.

With the aim of promoting creative exchange and dialogue between Dakar and Barcelona, the CCCB joins forces with the Senegalese academic and experimental centre Raw Material to bring the architects and researchers Nzinga Mboup and Carole Diop to Barcelona, where they will be in residence at Hangar for the month of September.

During their stay, Mboup and Diop will carry out a varied programme of activities linked to reflection on the city and contemporary challenges, and take part in meetings with agents in the field of architecture and urban thought. Among others, on 5 September Mboup will participate in the Global South Metropolises programme, and on 10 September Carole Diop will take part in the international Exploring the Spaces between City and Sea seminar.

Nzinga Mboup specializes in bioclimatic construction and has carried out projects that reflect on the urban evolution of Dakar from the pre-colonial period to the present, highlighting the recovery of ancestral construction techniques and materials. Carole Diop has carried out projects at the intersection between art, architecture and urban planning, such as Afrikadaa magazine, and is specialized in the study of Lebu heritage, focusing on traditional houses and the urban configuration of the city.

A second part of this collaboration offers a residency at Raw Material to an artist based in Catalonia. The residency will take place in March 2025 and the call is open until 6 September. Click here for more information.
