Where are the women in a situation of homelessness?

Screening of "Querida A." and conversation with experts in women’s homelessness

Audiovisuals + Debate

Free with pre-booking

Women’s homelessness is an invisibilized phenomenon responding to a structural problem that affects an increasing number of women and goes beyond being homeless or living on the streets. In this session, organized by Apropa Cultura, we talk to experts in the social field to understand where the women in a situation of homelessness are, and the causes.

The screening of the short documentary film Querida A., produced by the CCCB as part of the City Symphonies project, prompts a conversation with Elena Sala, social educator, anthropologist and director of La Violeta centre; Estebana Ortiz, an employee at the Centre d’Acollida Assís shelter, and Elena Molina, the film’s director, conducted by Claudia Frontino, journalist and photographer. The debate will address the (non)invisible condition of homeless women—the causes and the diversity of existing realities—and we will also discuss the role of culture in homelessness.

Querida A. [Dear A.], Elena Molina, Spain, 2023, Hi8 and 6K/digital, 20’

We live in an age of control and hyperconnectivity; all our gestures and movements seem to leave a trace, yet there are lives that float below the threshold of visibility. For five years A. has been living on the streets of Barcelona, with no official papers or fixed abode. Her family is unable to locate her until a Facebook message changes everything. A visual reflection on the city of today and its black holes.

Moderators: Claudia Frontino

Participants: Elena Sala, Estebana Ortiz, Elena Molina, Luigi Cojazzi

Directors: Elena Molina
