Sunday in the Courtyard

To the Lighthouse of Translation

Dolors Udina and Itziar Hernández

Debate

Free with pre-booking

Dolors Udina and Itziar Hernández talk about the experience of translating Virginia Woolf.

Translating entails reading from the inside, capturing styles, nuances and strategies that must then be transferred into another language.

Doloros Udina (Mrs. Dalloway, “A Sketch of the Past” and A Writer’s Diary) and Itziar Hernández (Orlando, To the Lighthouse, Mrs. Dalloway and A Room of One’s Own) have translated Virginia Woolf into Catalan and Spanish, respectively. Both have had long careers as translators and agree that translating Virginia Woolf is an exceptional experience.
